How to Tell if ED is the Result of an Injury

by michael on October 28, 2009

Many men suffer from erectile dysfunction (ED) and the causes are many. Sometimes, as a man ages circulation weakens and this can have a major impact on the inability to sustain an erection. Then, there are those that cannot maintain an erection because they suffer from stress and anxiety. Thankfully, the development of erectile dysfunction prescriptions such as Viagra, Levitra, and Cialis can deliver the much needed results that can reverse the problems associated with ED.

However, if the erectile dysfunction is the result of an injury then a prescription may not be able to reverse the problem. In fact, a serious injury might require penile surgery in order to correct the problem. Probably the most common injury that a person may face is that of a penile fracture. Again, this is a very serious injury and it would need to be properly treated by a physician’s care.

So, how can you determine whether or not you have suffered an injury? Honestly, you cannot determine whether or not you have suffered an injury. Only an examination by an urologist can determine if a serious problem has occurred. But, there are certain obvious warning signs that an injury has taken place.

The most obvious sign of an injury would be swelling and lumps on the penis. This swelling would be similar to the type of hematoma that would be common with any one of a number of injuries. However, when you see such an injury on the penis you positively must see a doctor because it is very easy to completely damage the urinary tract when the penis is injured.

Discoloration is another significant sign of injury. Black and blue marks can represent something that is either serious or something that is not as dangerous. In order to ascertain whether it is serious or not you will need to be examined by a professional. When it comes to penile injuries, you must positively have the extent of the injury determined. To do otherwise could lead to serious complications.

Smoking and Erectile Dysfunction

by michael on October 9, 2009

There are many reasons to quit smoking. The numbers of problems one can experience from a smoking habit/addiction are so voluminous, many are not clearly known to the public. Case in point, those that smoke will commonly suffer from erectile dysfunction issues. Now, some may assume that this is a little bit of anti-smoking hysteria. True, smoking is sometimes blamed for everything as far as health problems are concerned. But, this is not always hysteria. Smoking can cause a tremendous amount of health problems and even smoker’s rights proponents will admit this is the case. And it is no overstatement to say that smoking can lead to or worsen erectile dysfunction problems.

The link between erectile dysfunction and smoking has been definitely established by medical community for some time now. Studied published in 2003 proved that the result of smoking building up plaque in the arteries is not limited to the heart. It can affect the arteries in the penis as well. This makes the flow of blood difficult which, in turn, makes the ability to sustain an erection difficult as well. As such, the more you smoke the more plaque you will build up in the penis’ artery. This significantly increases the potential for erectile dysfunction to develop. Obviously, this infers that cutting back on your smoking intake will decrease the potential to suffer from ED.

Unfortunately, those that have been smoking a long time and have smoked in excess of 20 cigarettes (one pack) per day may already be suffering from the unfortunate effects of erectile dysfunction. If this is the case, there are always erectile dysfunction prescriptions that can certainly help improve the condition. However, it is extremely important to fully disclose your smoking problem with the prescribing physician. ED prescriptions and heart problems do not go well together and smoking goes hand in hand with poor cardio health. This does not mean that those with heart issues are unable to use ED prescriptions. It simply means one should discuss such problems in detail with a physician prior to taking them.
